Since January 2015 flexible couplings have been standardized for the first time ever in the DIN EN 16 397. Until 2014 couplings with and without
shear band were only standardized in the DIN EN 295-4 when used with clay pipes.
The scope of application has now sizably extended to the following:
- Couplings can be used for all pipe materials for non-pressure drainage and sewage systems
- For above and below ground applications
- For installation inside and outside of buildings
- For repair purposed and connecting of different pipe systems
The new European Standard for flexible couplings is defined into two parts:
Part 1: Performance requirements, DIN EN 16397-1
Part 2: Characteristics and testing for metal banded flexible couplings, adaptors and bushes, DIN EN 16397-2
As all relevant pipe standards and technical regulations have been included in the new standard, the scope of testing has considerably increased. Mücher secures its high product quality and the compliance with the standards by external testing at MPA (Materialprüfungsamt) in Dortmund, as well as by internal tests in the Mücher test laboratory. Therefore Mücher is able to proof test results and compliances although the external quality control is no longer obligatory.
